Sacred Jyotirlinga
Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga
Sacred History
Trimbakeshwar Temple is one of the sacred 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
The temple is located near the city of Nashik at the foothills of the Brahmagiri Hills.
This temple is especially significant because it is the origin of the holy Godavari River, one of the longest rivers in India.
The name Trimbakeshwar represents three forms of the divine — Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva — symbolizing the unity of the Hindu trinity.

Story of Trimbakeshwar
According to ancient legends, a great sage named Gautama lived in this region with his wife Ahalya.
Sage Gautama was known for his kindness and devotion.
Due to jealousy from other sages, Gautama was falsely blamed for causing the death of a cow, which was considered a grave sin.
To atone for this, Gautama prayed intensely to Lord Shiva and asked him to bring the sacred Ganges to this land for purification.
Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva requested the Ganga to descend here in the form of the Godavari River.
Lord Shiva then manifested as the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga, blessing the region forever.
Origin of the Godavari River
The holy Godavari River is believed to originate from the Brahmagiri Hills near this temple.
