Sacred Jyotirlinga
Baidyanath Jyotirlinga
Sacred History
Baidyanath Dham is one of the sacred 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is located in Deoghar.
The name Baidyanath means 'Lord of Physicians', referring to the healing form of Shiva.
Devotees believe that worshipping here brings healing, relief from suffering, and restoration of physical and spiritual well-being.
The temple complex is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in eastern India and attracts millions of devotees every year.

Story of Baidyanath
The legend of Baidyanath is closely connected with Ravana, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva.
Ravana performed intense penance to please Shiva and even offered his own heads one by one as a sacrifice.
Impressed by his devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before him and granted him a powerful Shiva Lingam.
Shiva asked Ravana to carry the Lingam to Lanka with one condition that it must never be placed on the ground during the journey.
While traveling, Ravana needed to rest and asked a young boy, who was actually Lord Ganesha in disguise, to hold the Lingam temporarily.
The boy placed the Lingam on the ground, making it permanently fixed at that location.
This place later became the sacred Baidyanath Jyotirlinga.
